With cases accumulating in the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a need for safe, effective treatments. Certain existing medications may have value for treating COVID-19.
The COVID-19 virus has caused over 28 million cases in the US. Vaccination is underway, but new infections are still occurring regularly. Furthermore, some variants of the virus seem to spread more easily and quickly than other variants, which may lead to more cases of COVID-19. Some evidence suggests that there are safe, available medications developed for other purposes that may hold some value for also treating COVID-19. This nation-wide study will evaluate the effectiveness of such medications for treating COVID-19, aiming to enroll 15,000 patients across approximately 80 sites.
Would you like to help guide research related to COVID-19 treatment? The research team is looking to form a Stakeholder Advisory Committee to advise on the development of the study protocol. Goals include making sure that study procedures are convenient and acceptable to participants, and that the study enrolls a group of participants that reflects the diversity of the US population at risk for COVID-19.
Ages 21 and up; Live in MD, MI, NJ, OH,PA, VA, or WV; have experienced COVID-19 symptoms or acted as a caregiver for someone else who is/was ill from the COVID-19 virus.
