NOVEMBER 2021

On November 4, 2021, the Story Booth team was delighted to have the opportunity to meet with a group of students and faculty affiliated with the Duquesne University English Department for an invited presentation, "Using Narrative to Promote Patient-Centered Health." Drs. Megan Hamm and Kathleen McTigue shared the history and goals of Story Booth, and discussed some of the themes that arise within the archive’s stories."

While Duquesne is only a couple miles from Pitt, the conference was held by video conferencing due to COVID-19. Nevertheless, there was a rich discussion of how Story Booth may help bring more of the human experience into the healthcare arena. Some students had backgrounds in liberal arts while others are planning careers in health care. They asked some great questions about how stories are gathered and used, and made suggestions for possible ways that humanities students could learn from the Story Booth archive. We hope that this conversation may lead to more interactions with our colleagues from Duquesne, and more broadly with those who are invested in teaching and learning about liberal arts.
